Atlantic 17
One Design Class Rules

    The Atlantic 17 is a one design, open water rowing boat for one or two rowers. The following rules will assure the uniformity of boats neccesary to assure level competition in this class.

1) All boats shall be built to the approved plans and specifications of the Atlantic 17

1.1) Approval  of  plans and specifications shall be made by the Atlantic 17 Class Association

1.2) Builders of boats and kits shall be licensed by the Atlantic 17 Class Association

1.3) Licensed builders and kit suppliers for the Atlantic 17 as of July 25, 2000, are:

2) Additional specifications for boats in this class are as follows

2.1) Boats, fully rigged (i.e. with seats and oarlocks in place) shall be no less than 85 pounds when rigged as a single, and 90 pounds when rigged as a double

2.2) Oarlocks shall be mounted on the inside of the rails

2.3) Oars shall be no more than eight feet in total length

2.4) Oar blades shall be no more than 144 square inches

2.5) All other means of propulsion are prohibited

3) Races in the Atlantic 17 class shall be held on open bodies of water (i.e. large rivers and lakes, bays, harbors, sounds, or open oceans).

3.1) Race courses shall be established and published by the race committee of the sponsoring club or organization

3.2) Races shall proceed at the discretion of the race committee

3.3) Races shall be a minimum of one nautical mile in length

3.4) Seperate races shall be held for single and double categories

3.5)The Atlantic 17 Class Association shall at its discretion establish regional, national, and international competitions

3.6) There shall be an annual class competition and championship in both single and double categories

3.7) Perpetual trophies for the annual championship in each  category shall be held by the most recent winner until the following annual contest
