26' and 30'Power Catamarans

26' Power Catamaran
Measuring 26 feet 6 inches by 12 feet, this outboard powered, plywood and epoxy/fiberglass catamaran was designed to work in the demanding shell fishing industry. The objective is to create a stable, durable work platform, capable of carrying a payload of 6000 pounds, attaining good cruising speeds with relatively small horsepower. The working deck area is 20 feet by 12 feet.
To achieve this, the design is of a full displacement-configuration, with symetrical double-ended hulls to minimize drag when fully loaded. Overall simplicity of design and construction keeps the cost of this vessel relatively low in proportion to the service it will provide.
To enhance this vessels ability to operate in open water conditions, the outboards are placed 40 of her length from the stern, between the hulls, on a pivoting arm to compensate for various loading conditions. A pair of 40 horsepower outboards are projected to provide speeds of 12 to 18 knots (loaded/unloaded).
Construction of this catamaran is of 1/2 inch AC Fir plywood over 3/4 inch plywood bulkheads. Chines and inwales are of 3/4 inch spruce, with screw fasteners (the first of these boats is all bronze fastened; stainless steel is standard). All hull joints are bedded in 3M 5200 marine sealant. The bulkheads are epoxy-filleted and fiberglass taped to the hull.
The decking is framed with 2x6 Fir beams, which extend from outside rail to outside rail of the vessel and are glued and bolted to the bulkheads. The underside of the deck is 1/2 inch Fir plywood, with two sections extending the full width of the vessel to form a continuos box section, which provided redundant strength in the hull connections. The top deck is 3/4 inch Fir plywood. All hull and deck connections are reinforced with 15 oz biaxial fiberglass tape set in epoxy; fiberglass/epoxy sheathing of all surfaces is available.

30' Power Catamaran
This vessel is a stetched-out version of our 26 foot Catamaran, and provides all of the benifits of a stable work platform and good carrying capacity in an economical vessel requiring relatively low power. The work deck on this boat measures 24 by 12 feet, with a maximum carrying capacity of 8000 pounds. Speeds of 12 to 18 knots (loaded/unloaded) afre expected with a pair of 50 horsepower outboards.
Construction of this vessel is of 1/2 inch Fir plywood on 3/4 inch Fir plywood bulkheads. The bulkheads are epoxy filleted and glass taped to the hull. Chines and inwales are of Fir.All fasteners are of stainless steel, and all hull joints are bedded in 3M 5200 marine sealant, with all hull and deck joints further reinforced with 15 oz. biaxial fiberglass tape set in epoxy. Epoxy fiberglass sheathing of all external surfaces is also available.
The center decking is built of 2x6 beams which extend from outside rail to outside rail, and are glued and bolted to the bulkheads. The underside is 1/2 inch plywood, with the top of 3/4 inch plywood (Fir). Tow sections of the underside plywood extends across the entire width of the vessel to form a box section, which gives redundant strength to the hull connection.
To enhance open water performance, the outboards are mounted 40 of the vessels length from the stern, on a bracket which raises and lowers the motors for various loads.
